The Writer in Me Lost to the Webmaster Again!

I finally understand, on a deeper level, how being a jack of all trades can slow you down--even when everything you're doing is valuable. One man. Too many hats. Not enough time. This was supposed to take a few hours!

Guilty!

Once again... Me talking to my self... LOL..

Right now, I should be focused on updating all my manuscripts so I can release the paperback versions of my books. But the webmaster in me said, "You need your personal website ready first to promote yourself as an author." Fair enough. After all, I didn't want to slap the domain name on these books with a web site that says; "Under Construction".

How would that make me look?

Except... What I thought would be a few hours of tweaking turned into three days of deep web design work.

Why? Because I didn't just want a generic site--I wanted something personal. That meant updating my custom-built CMS.

And guess who had to do it?

Woody the programmer.

Now, before you say "Just hire someone," let me explain--my software is proprietary. I'm not comfortable handing it off. I know, I know... classic jack-of-all-trades behavior.

The work wasn't wasted. I enjoy it. It's important. But here's the point: Sometimes wearing all the hats can keep you from doing the one thing that matters right now. If building a website isn't your zone, maybe it's better to pay someone and focus on what actually brings the biggest return.

If this sounds familiar, I wrote a whole book about it:

This is a short read but I promise you, it will help you discover that in your personal life, or in your business practice, you may be a Jack of all trades and not even realize it.

If you haven't read it yet, grab a copy on Amazon--and if you already did, don't forget to leave a review.

Until next time,
